What to Expect
Time:
1.5-2.5 hours, depending on the piano's needs. First appointments tend to last longer than future appointments. Opening/Cleaning: I start each appointment by opening and safely disassembling as much of your piano as possible. I vacuum all accessible parts and lightly clean the keys and exterior components when I reassemble the piano at the end of the appointment. On grand pianos I will also do a light dusting/vacuuming of the soundboard (underneath the strings). Tuning: As gently and refined as possible, I will be repeatedly (and firmly) striking notes for probably about an hour or longer. Tuning tends to take longer proportionally to how out of tune the piano is to begin with.* *Further out of tune pianos need to be brought up in stages and will require follow-up tuning for best results. Pianos that get tuned regularly (at least every 6-12 months) are often quicker to retune as well as being more stable and refined in their tuning. Adjustments/Repairs: There are many common issues that I am able to resolve as an included part of my appointments. Some issues require significant time or materials and therefore may add to the cost of the appointment or even require an additional appointment. I am able to refer to other experienced piano workers for other types of substantial repairs or rebuilding that I don't personally offer. Payment: I prefer checks made out to "Seth Olson" or "Seth Olson's Piano Service" or cash. I can also accept Zelle, Venmo or credit cards. |
